It's not too often that we get to hear music all the way from Australia. And it's certainly not often that the music happens to be afro-funk. That is however exactly the kind of music The Liberators make: afrobeat mixed with blaxploitation-like funk and a hint of jazz. The band is about to release their debut album in a couple weeks, fronted by the single Rags To Riches, a song that seems to belong back in the 70s. Just like we like our funk.
Apparently, The Liberators too had the 70s in mind when making this song, or at least the movies of the time. The single is accompanied by a video clip that spoofs about every blaxploitation film ever made. And this is just the teaser.
It's got everything. The evil kung fu master, the fake hits and kicks, and the pimp with the purple suit.
The new and self titled album will be in stores on March 14th, but you can buy it already over at Record Kicks, where you can also listen to the whole thing. This is a really good funk album, all the energy and talent needed is there. Hurry up and listen to it.
